[Writing Assistance]
Many people have a nonfiction or fiction book that they are driven by their innermost being to write out. There are many websites talking about how to write characters, plot, setting, and many of those writing technicals.
Yet there is a significant dearth of
– How to write an ecosystem?
– How to describe a historical period?
– How to know when to stop and start world-building?
– How much realism does your fantasy need?
– How to properly utilize science and history to really bolster your sci-if works?
– When do you describe the birch trees or stop to smell the tulips?
The answer for that last one is as frequently as possible.
Birch trees have white bark that better reflects the light from the sun and snow, so noting that the trees are native or exotic to the area tells you so much about that part of the world and what kind of animals and people are hardy enough to dwell there. Tulips in the northern hemisphere tend to bloom from mid-March to late-May. The stronger sunlight and soil wet with rain allow the reader to understand the season, which is ripe with metaphors and symbolism opportunities.
