Oak of Zion Hymn Poetry
Israeli oak trees be,
From Tabor to Mamre,
Full leafy branching shade,
Good relief that God has made,
Pillared landmark oak tree.
Yet sinful man lusted,
What if oak we trusted,
Grow tall for idols carved,
Prayers of enemies starved,
Under evil we meditated.
God mocks our agony,
You cry to the oak “Save Me!”,
Yet grew it decades thrice,
Hill, mountain sacrifice,
To devil gods incense pleas.
Taking women by oaks,
Arrogant sinning gloats,
Sacred fire shall leaves burn,
Branches, stumps ashen turn,
Pride roots are flaming jokes.
Yet righteousness preserved,
Zion mourns hope conserved,
Baptism grows the faithful,
Savior to Israel,
Full Salvation conferred.
Now believer’s passion,
From Jabesh to Bashan,
Where Holy Gospel shades,
Heaven’s promise not fades,
Eternal Salvation.
This is the second part of this work, called The Making Of: Oaks of Zion. I go into how I made this cross of a dark, poetic hymn. This would never make it into a hymnal rated E for Everyone, but it certainly is ok for teenagers and older, so maybe this would work for a men-only hymnal. This was a fun experimental work.
Incredibly well done! I enjoyed it because it made me think, it follows an accurate path and I was eager for each next stanza!
